A 9,000 SF, two-story addition was designed and built by The Samuels Group to accommodate the Museum’s growing collection, including the gift of forty-three Owen J. Gromme paintings featuring Wisconsin flora and fauna. The addition comprises a 5,000 SF gallery, 2,500 SF art storage area, all-new ADA-compliant restrooms, elevator, enhanced main entry, and glass-enclosed stair tower. The stair area and elevator were designed to accommodate the future roof-top presentation of sculpture. Green design elements and sustainable materials were incorporated into the project to maximize energy efficiency.
The Samuels Group also worked with the Museum on master planning for the facility and the campus as well as on a new parking lot for overflow use. The facility was upgraded to meet ADA standards and additional way-finding signage was installed.
The Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum received a 2013 Build Wisconsin Award.
