Flambeau Hospital is a critical access hospital remotely located in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. The facility, built in the 1950's, required more space (and privacy) for patients and staff, renovations to its aging structures, new equipment and furniture, and a fresh and inviting environment that easily accommodated wheelchairs and equipment. Along with the architectural team, The Samuels Group worked with Flambeau Hospital on their master planning process and developed a three-phase renovation plan. Serving as construction manager for the project, The Samuels Group provided an early approach to project planning, cost effective solutions, and a means to detect potential errors prior to construction.
This project (consisting of 3,530 SF of new construction and 5,230 SF of remodeling) was completed in July of 2012. Flambeau Hospital is enjoying new spaces that include the front entrance and canopy, registration and waiting area, two private trauma rooms, five private treatment rooms (one specifically decorated for children), one triage room, and a MRI access dock. A quiet room for family discussions, multiple administrative spaces, and infrastructure upgrades were also included in the expansion.
The Samuels Group demonstrated exceptional safety practices (with no lost time accidents), worked within a very tight budget, successfully blended the new construction with older portions of the facility, and met the unique needs associated with renovating a critical access hospital while maintaining operations during construction. The extensive planning, coordination, quality construction management, and quality control resulted in an attractive modern "northwoods feel" facility. The new facility serves many different needs and has enhanced the hospital's ability to carry out their mission of raising the health status of the rural communities they serve. This project has significantly improved operation costs, efficiencies, and patient/staff satisfaction.
