The 6,000 SF single-story building serves as a multifunctional facility for Waushara County, housing both administrative and operational spaces for the county's emergency medical services. The building was designed with a mixed-use layout, with 1/3 of the space allocated to administrative purposes and the other 2/3 dedicated to staff quarters and operational functions. It includes administrative offices for county staff, a flexible training room for staff development and emergency exercises, a central supply area for storing essential equipment and materials, and a three-bay garage for housing emergency vehicles and equipment. Additionally, the facility features crew quarters designed to accommodate four EMTs, complete with a full living room and kitchen, as well as a storm shelter for staff protection during severe weather events.
The project team successfully secured variances during the plan review process, allowing for the elimination of fire suppression systems. Instead, enhanced fire ratings were applied around each EMT's sleeping quarters, ensuring safety and improving the building's ability to withstand fire, delaying structural failure and protecting lives.
The building’s exterior was designed to align with the color palette of other recently constructed EMS stations in the county, maintaining consistency with the county’s branding. Furthermore, the mechanical systems of the building were integrated with the county's existing building automation controls, enabling centralized facility staff to monitor and manage the building’s environmental systems efficiently.
